Getting Old Before Getting Rich: Changes and Challenges in China

This talk will be focused on the spatial study of aging issues in China by introducing spatial theory, methodology, technology, data and online tools for understanding the aging issues in China. It will discuss a general framework for spatial China based on the ecological systems theory. It will discuss the changes and challenges China is facing with the rapidly declining population growth. An introduction will be given to spatial data explorers (China Geo-Explorer, and US Geo-Explorer). It will demonstrate how space-time data of different formats and sources from the government statistics, Census, Internet data and social media data can be integrated, visualized, analyzed and reported in a web based system for the spatial study of aging China.
